Luxury Hotel
While their maybe newer, more fashion-minded hotels on the Milan scene in recent year, Principe di Savoia still lingers as one of the city's best. A central location ideal for those in Milan for their umpteenth time offers a gilded address with service honed by Dorchester Collection, the 5-star management company that also operate Plaza Athenee in Paris as well as the Beverly Hills Hotel. The ethereal feel of each is recalled upon entrance into the grand marble lobby with rosewood detailing and exotic marble floors that are an ode to Italy itself. The reception occupied a quaff corner in a larger lounge of emerald-hue velvet banquette and all-day martini scene with walls lined in dramatic, mythical oils. An infrastructure of dining includes acclaimed Acanto restaurant with its grand dining room and summertime terrace as well as late-night Principe Bar open til 1:30am with its walls of onyx and amber-lit bar all designed by Thierry Despont.
The Room
Originally built in the 1920s, the hotel benefits from a more recent remodel that offers a gilded 19th century Lombard deel to its interior décor that mixes rich, dark woods with royal-colored upholstery and modern artworks. Entry-level rooms are simple but grand spaces with plaster wall detailing, heavy swag draper and custom furnishing by master Italian carpenter Giuseppe Maggiolini. Executive rooms offer separate seating area in addition to more dramatic four-poster beds and bathrooms outfitted in Acqua di Parma. Larger suites include leather-lined closets and optional butler service in addition to the top-of-the-line Presidential with private dining room, expansive terrace and private swimming indoor pool enveloped in a Pompeian street scene.
